In this lesson, we're diving into the essential setup you'll need to get started with Etch.
We'll be using Etch as our page builder throughout this course because it's both the best dev environment and best learning environment. I know you might be tempted to use a different builder, but you'll be much better off following along with the same exact tool I'm using.
If you're using the same tool I'm teaching with, you won't get stuck wondering why your interface looks different or why a feature is in a different place. Plus, when you're learning web development concepts, having consistency in your tools means you can focus on learning rather than troubleshooting software differences.
You'll also be able to see and learn from the code with Etch, where other builders hide the code away and abstract it into proprietary terms.

You can use whatever page builder you want, but I think you'll quickly see how frustrating many of them are when you're trying to do even fairly simple and fundamental things.
In this lesson, we're going to walk through two critical setup steps: installing LocalWP—which is the local WordPress environment we'll be using to build and test everything—and then getting Etch installed and ready to go. By the end of this video, you'll have everything configured and ready to start building.
